Brendan Evans is a classical guitar player living in Rockport, Massachusetts, and has just released his debut album entitled Tiento. A tiento is, at its core, an exploration — a musical act of seeking that can take many forms. First used as a title in the fifteenth century, the term later came to describe one of the more solemn and introspective styles of flamenco song. This spirit of searching finds a powerful modern expression in Maurice Ohana’s Tiento, the title work of the album, a striking composition that draws on elements of ancient music while speaking in a contemporary voice.
For Evans, Tiento represents both tradition and personal journey — an effort, a temptation, a feeling. The title reflects his deep connection to the classical guitar’s lineage while asserting a uniquely personal musical identity.
