Episode 6 of TCE TV’s Season 2 picks up on our last episode, which showcased opportunities for book artists. In tonight’s episode, TCE TV’s host Yemi Alalade visits with directors of programs for artists who make or want to make books – or, for those who just love artists books and want to find out more about them. Yemi’s first stop is to The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a special treat for anyone interested in picture books. From there Yemi heads to Minnesota, home one of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. There she interviews Elysa Voshell, who shares with us information about the center’s funding, residencies, workshops and exhibition possibilities for book artists. Afterwards, Yemi meets with Sharon Louden, the director of the Women’s Studio Workshop – celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The workshop was founded in 1974 to support a “vision of a society where women’s visual art is integral to the cultural mainstream and permanently recorded in history.” Today its mission remains the same, as they continue to offer women artists (including trans, intersex, nonbinary and genderfluid artists) time and space to create and “stimulate public involvement, awareness, and support for the visual arts.” For her last stop, Yemi takes us to MacDowell, a well-known residency for artists of all disciplines, including writers and visual artists.
