Naturally Oregon A Brooding Sea

“A Brooding Sea: Along The Oregon Coast” was filmed in early October at Cape Arago, a wild and rocky landform that juts out into the Pacific Ocean, just under 15 miles southwest of Coos Bay. Gray skies overhead during filming were reflected in the surface of the sea and contrasted with the starkly white surf building and then crashing into the dark shoreline. The muted color of the raw footage convinced the filmmaker to render the finished film in black and white for a more dramatic effect. The film’s sound track, “Death of Kings,” performed on French Horns, Trombones, Cimbasso, Trumpets, Drum, and Chimes, was chosen because the composer’s description of the piece as feeling “dark, epic, and somber” fit the mood at Cape Arago on the day of filming.
