Future Talk - People Centered Economy Modern technology has brought us a lot of benefits, but it’s also caused a lot of disruption, including in labor markets, where more and more jobs are being taken over by machines. What happens to people whose skills are no longer needed in the new economy? In this episode we discuss an idea called the People Centered Economy, in which workers will be taught how to produce greater value in whatever enterprise they're in, and corporations will seek to cultivate the value producing ability of each worker. There are two guests. Curt Carlson served for 16 years as President and CEO of SRI International, a leading center of innovative research that has produced developments such as the Siri voice recognition system and high definition television. He’s also Founder and CEO of Practice of Innovation, a consulting company that advises governments and corporations around the world how to get the most value from their workers. David Nordfors is the co-founder of Innovation 4 Jobs, a think tank that looks for ways to create new types of jobs and prepare people to fill them. He’s the coauthor, along with Internet pioneer Vint Cerf, of a book called The People Centered Economy, and he’s currently a distinguished visiting scholar at IBM Research. Martin Wasserman hosts.
