Out and About – 100 Carats: Icons of the Gem World & Oddities & Curiosities See a dazzling collection of more than two dozen precious gems when the Natural History Museum of LA County unveils its new exhibit “100 Carats: Icons of the Gem World.” The stunning collection is a priceless assortment of diamonds, emeralds and sapphires, and features the “Jonker I”, known as one of the most valuable diamonds in the world. The temporary exhibit is displayed adjacent to the museum’s permanent Hall of Gems and Roger’s opening day coverage also features an informative cabbing demonstration to show how gems are shaped and polished. Then watch as items and objects of the peculiar nature are featured in a unique expo focusing in on the freakish. “Oddities and Curiosities” is a popular trade show featuring many items one would see in a traveling carnival and the assortment of goth art, animal horns, faux skeletons and other oddball items make it a mecca for collectors of the strange and unusual.
