Future Talk This episode examines how technological innovation happens, what kind of conditions are necessary to keep it going, and whether innovation can sometimes be too rapid, creating unintended dangers. The guest is Curt Carlson, internationally recognized leader in the field of innovation. He served 16 years as President and CEO of SRI International, one of the world’s top scientific research labs. Under his leadership, SRI became renowned not only for creating great technology, but also for bringing it to the commercial marketplace. He helped start over 25 new companies, including Siri, the maker of the interactive speech program that was acquired by Apple, and Intuitive Surgical, the maker of robotic surgery equipment. His methods of creating value have been applied by leading corporations worldwide, he served on President Obama’s National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, he's a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, and has received numerous awards and honors.
